I think they are at the point of challenging a beautiful Tamiya model, without the gluing and painting. With upwards of 2000 pieces, you are looking at a serious investment in time, as you watch the shape emerge and start adding details. I also like that you can take them apart to build your own creation or store them safely.
COBI battleships and aircraft carriers have the distinct advantage of not suffering fatal injury when your grandkid knocks off the radio antenna or an important defensive gun. Pick it up and put it back on. Tamiya model - ugghhh
Or perhaps you own a cat.
