Mitsubishi A6M2 is one of the best fighters of the initial period of World War II. The Navy's Model 0 Deck Fighter had no official name. The number 0 indicates the end of the year 2600 (according to the Japanese calendar), in which the aircraft was designed. Hence the origin of the popular term "Zero" invented by the British. The aircraft was designed by engineer Jirō Horikoshi in 1940 for the Imperial Japanese Navy. The model during the war was constantly modified.
